The pop prodigy Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell (Billie Eilish to her friends) has returned with another unpredictable and exciting single 'you should see me in a crown'.
This alternative electro-pop single is beautifully composed with a pop core and unforgettable chorus. The title of the single draws inspiration from the BBC television show Sherlock, as Sherlock Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty says, “In a world of locked rooms, the man with the key is king. And honey, you should see me in a crown”. It begins with an ominous crawl that is followed by a gothic beat drop, resembling a sinister nursery rhyme and giving the single its dynamic edge.
Still only sixteen, Elish’s lyrical balance between heartbreak and straight-up attitude allows her to explore deep emotions that would usually be beyond the power of most people her age. By doing so, she takes her listeners on a vivid journey through her struggle with depression, highlighting the conflicting personal views she has of herself.
Accompanying the single is a fifteen second visual that highlights the gothic undertone of the track. The visual shows spiders climbing over a crown, similar to the cover art of the single, intriguing listeners and leaving them wondering 'what will Eilish do next?'
She has also revealed an abstract music video for last year's single 'Hostage'; if you have not seen it yet, check it out below..
